CLUB HISTORY

At the Annual General Meeting of United Pirates on 16 October 1974 it was moved by Alastair Simpson “that the position of a club historian be looked into for the recording of club history.” The motion was carried but never implemented.

In 2014 we dedicated this record of the club’s history to the late Alastair Simpson.

Recording the history of our club was expected to be a reasonably short task with a few key dates and events of interest to be documented in a more formal manner than had been done to date.

Upon commencing the exercise it was soon realised that our history goes back a long way; certainly well beyond the memory of even our most senior members. It was recognised that the founders of the club had largely been forgotten over time as have many milestones, events, characters and dedicated officers. Suffice to say, recording our history was an extensive undertaking, continuing to this day.
